Department of Chemistry Awards

Exceptional Performance in Biochemistry
This award, for academic excellence, is given by the Chemistry Department to an outstanding junior or senior majoring in Biochemistry. The award is largely based on academic performance in two or more courses in the biochemistry curriculum which are administered by the Chemistry Department. The courses employed for consideration of this award are: Structural and Physical Biochemistry (CHE 474), Advanced Biomolecular Modeling (CHE 484), Metals in Medicine (CHE 412) and Preparation and Analysis of Proteins and Nucleic Acids Laboratory (CHE 477).

Birge Award for Exceptional Performance in Biochemistry Research
This award is presented to a senior majoring in Biochemistry for outstanding research. The application material for this award is a nominating letter from the research mentor detailing the research accomplishments of the student. The deadline for the application is March 30.

University Awards

Norma Slepecky Prize for Female Undergraduate Research
In memory of the late Norma Slepecky, the $750 prize will be awarded in the spring semester of each academic year to a female SU undergraduate student who is excited about her research and has mentors who advocate and supervise undergraduate research experiences.
